Kareen Ab-Rafeh's poem:

I come from a family with a long past
       and a small present.
I come from the city and the mountains.
I come from the people that write right to left
       in a weird artistic way.

I come from people that make delicious foods,
which people around the world love.
I come from sweet dessert and juicy syrups.

I come from candles to light bulbs.
I come from board games to video games.
I come from books to computers.
I come from country life to modern life.

I come from two different worlds.
I am Kareen.

Stranger
                                         by Kareen Abi Rafeh

Stranger you were there to tuck me in bed
You were there to make me breakfast

Your car was parked in front of the garage door
But the next morning it wasn't

Stranger you've missed out on comforting me in my time of sorrow
You missed making me pancakes

Stranger I stand before you
In the place were you perished

Stranger were are you?
